ALOHA FRIDAY

Its Aloha Friday!!! This fun game was started by Kailani over at An Island Life. Friday is a day to take it easy and look forward to the weekend. In line with taking it easy, I ask a question and you post answer!!!
This week's question is:
WHAT IS THE ONE BEAUTY PRODUCT YOU CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT?
I am somewhat of a makeup fanatic. It's kinda like a sickness, I see something new, I gotta have it! However, I have been committed to Mary Kay skin care products for many years! I don't necessarily use their colors, but every single day I HAVE to use the Timewise 3 in 1 cleanser for normal to dry skin, the Timewise Age-Fighting eye cream, the Timewise Age-Fighting moisturizer, and this is my NEW, CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT PRODUCT:
Mary Kay Oil Free Hydrating Gel.
OMG this stuff is fantabulous! You put it on over your moisturizer and your skin will feel soft as a baby's bum! The biggie though is that it is just not heavy at all. I LOVE IT!
So what is your can't live without product?
Also if you are interested in trying any of the Mary Kay products, I have a great Mary Kay lady who will ship anywhere in the US. She also offers a 50% discount on anything for your birthday! Her website address is www.marykay.com/beffiewilliams She has been great to work with!
Have a great weekend everyone!

PARTY POOPERS, AND MY FIRST BIRTHDAY PRESSIE OF 2009

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MEEEEE, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MEEEEE. No not today, on Thursday! You know, I realized today that I have not shamelessly promoted my birthday here on my blog, like I do used to do on my online beading group. My good friend Angel Yoga Diva, (whose name has been changed to protect the innocent) has a birthday the day before mine. We are twins separated at birth and 7 years apart. We are soul sistas, and kindred spirits. She is always my roomie at the retreat or any overnight gatherings we have with the beaders. She is also an Angel Therapy Practitioner and tells me all about my angels, which is always sooo interesting, I just love to pick her brain about it! Anywhooo, (got off track there for a few) we would start sending occasional birthday reminders out to our beading group, ohhhhh mid-July, at about the half year point. Crazy I know, but we just didn't want anyone forgetting what should really be declared 2 National Holidays (February 25 and 26). Can we help it that we love to celebrate, and what better occasion? I love birthdays! Anyone's birthday! Sadly, we have been forced to stop this. Evidently someone does not have a good sense of humor, or they had a a stick up their bum and they decided they didn't wanna hear it! Ohhhh Whateva! I was bitter, but I'm OK.....don't worry!!! Angel Yoga Diva and I were really bummed because the shameless promoting birthday celebrating came to a quick halt. I mean we weren't obnoxious or anything. We would just say little things like, the beaders gathering is July 26th. Hey isn't that just 6 months from my birthday? Subtle reminders like that.

So at any rate, BIRTHDAY WEEK HAS FINALLY ARRIVED!!!!! Its PRESSIE TIME!! OHHHHH THE EXCITEMENT OF IT ALL!! I had to run to the post office to mail a few packages, and when I came home there was a large flat box sitting on the chair, evidently delivered by Fedex or UPS. I look at the return address label and what do I see? Vera Bradley! AND, I die! I ripped that bad boy open and OMG I'm so excited! My sister sent me the Weekender Bag in Riviera Blue (Picture below). This matches our luggage (which is royal blue) perfectly!!

THANKS TERRI! I LOVE IT!!

I also got a card from the mamma with a check which I need to buy myself something to wear to Travis' play that is coming up in 2 weeks. THANKS MOM!! Speaking of the play, I was at the school selling tickets last night and got to pop in and watch for a bit. Too funny!! They are doing a spoof of Some Like it Hot and he is basically dressed as a woman the whole time. Is it weird that my 18 year-old, manly-man, athletic son walks around in high heels better than I do? The girls were telling us they had to show him and the other kid how to put a bra on, which they have to wear for the play. Michael had his on outside his undershirt because "it cuts in my skin." Yeah, welcome to my world dude!

Not much else going on here. Work has been crazy busy. But I suppose that could be considered job security, so I'm not complaining!

I do have a wish to get more organized. I realized this week when I was looking for something that I am terribly unorganized. My office is a pig sty from digging around looking for this piece of paper. Clutter and crap everywhere! I can't stand it. If anyone knows of any good books or has any ideas on organization , etc., I would love to know about them. I'M BEGGING, I NEED HELP!

I guess that's all that's new here at the Beach Bum wannabe household. I suppose if you want to give me a 'lil old birthday pressie, you could leave a comment or better yet, become a follower!!! Just a thought!!! :o)

Have a great day everyone!!

Wanna See Something Gross???

OK if the thought of finding a mouse in your food makes you want to wretch and vomit, you may want to think twice about watching the video below. I would die if this happened to me.

http://edition.cnn.com/video/#/video/living/2009/02/04/balderrama.mouse.in.food.kfox?iref=videosearch

I love to eat out. I honestly do. In fact, one day when I was examining my bank account online, I made the mistake of telling my husband that we eat out too much and should cut back. It was a knee-jerk reaction to my balance that was showing online. I curse the day I mentioned it, because he is making me stick with it! I didn't mean it that much!!

**shakes head**

That said, I have always kinda wondered how clean the kitchens are at the restaurants we eat in. My husband spent years in the commercial roofing business and there are several places in the Columbus Ohio area that he will not go near. I suppose there are times when "What you don't know won't hurt you."

Your thoughts?

VALENTINES EXCHANGE

Andrea over at My Chihuahua Bites (Check her blog out, she too funny!!) hosted a Valentines Day swap. I had seen a few bloggy Christmas swaps and they looked like a lot of fun, so I took the plunge.

Last Friday I received this in the mail:

This was from Erin at Everyday Erin She included some fun little things in there!

We had chatted a bit and she told me she is an avid scrapper and I told her I'm a beader but was looking to make a scrap book for my son who will be graduating in May. She sent me a few things to get started. It was so exciting to see what she sent. Now I need to tax her brain for ideas for the scrap book. Actually we have a scrapbook store here in town and I'm going to go this weekend and check it out. Thanks Erin.

Other News here.....

1. Work - Crazy
2. Bathroom Renovations - Not Done
3. House - Mess
4. Hubby - Cooked steak on the grill for dinner.
5. Son - Crabitha.

That's about it for me! Have a great night!

I've Been Tagged ~ and I'm So Excited

I was tagged by my new bloggy friend over at The Sweet Spot in a "bag tag." I have wanted to be "tagged" for forever, LOL. Well I guess not forever, but for awhile now for sure. I have been blogging for a long time and Ohhhh how I have longed to be tagged, or given an award, or something cool like that. Well my dream has FINALLY come true. Thanks TL! LOL, could I be anymore mellodramatic? I told her I was excited and I haven't heard from her since. Think I scared her off??? Yikes, hope not, LMBO!

Anyway, this tag is all about purses, and as I said above it is called a "Bag Tag."

1) Post a picture of whatever bag you are carrying as of late. No, you cannot go up to your closet and pull out that cute little purse you used back before you had kids. I want to know what you carried today or the last time you left the house. No cheating!

2) You need to put how much it cost:) (This is one of the rules but if you don't feel comfortable with this, I don't care) And this is not to judge. This is for entertainment purposes only, and if there is a story to go along with how you obtained it, I’d love to hear it.

3) Tag some chicks. And link back to this post so people know why the heck you’re showing everyone your bag.

OK so purses, of all things, LOL! I actually love purses! I love them "almost" as much as I love shoes. However, since I work at home, I don't have a need to buy many purses, or shoes for that matter.

Here is the one I'm carrying right now:

This is a Liz Claiborne bag and the neat thing about it is the front and both side pockets, as well as the back have magnets. They are very strong and it clicks shut and doesn't come open. Dang it sure looks abused though, doesn't it?

This bag as 2 neat little side pockets that are the perfect size for my cell phone.

And since I was taking pics, I thought I would add a "True Confessions component to this post. I had to take a picture of the inside, because it is disgraceful!! I need to go clean that badboy out!

This purse actually cost me nothing. Big, Fat $0!! My mom has a true love of purses, and she buys some good ones. Her faves right now are Dooney and Bourke and Coach. She gives me them when she is done, if they are not worn out. Hey, I am not above hand-me-downs in any way, shape, or form!

I also want to share that I'm a HUGE fan of Vera Bradley and I usually buy a new one every spring. That is normally the one purse I buy per year.

I have this one from last year and I would like to get this one this spring.

So now I have to tag some other people. Hmmmm, who should I tag......

Lets do.....

Mary from 2 Kai's

Andrea from My Chihuahua Bites
Melissa from Hope Floats
And I guess that's it for now. Thanks for playing along!!

HAPPY BELATED VALENTINES DAY EVERYONE

So what do a couple of beachbum wannabe's do to celebrate Valentine's Day? Well since we live a gazillion miles from any beach and it was freezing cold here in Central Ohio, we had dinner and movie! It was actually a very nice evening. We went to the El Vaquero for dinner where I had a tamale and a taco and a couple of raspberry margaritas, and John had some chimichangas and a couple of very big margaritas. Those margarita's knocked us on our butts. We sat there for a bit and then I had to drive over to the movie, LOL. We went to see "He's Not That Into You." Personally I thought it stunk. It was very slow and I had to wake John up several times, LMBO. So embarrassing when he starts snoring in a full theater. We laughed about it a lot later.

He brought my surprise home on Friday night. The absolutely most beautiful bouquet of roses and lillies.

I kept trying to get a good picture of him with my flowers and this is what I kept getting.

I know, he looks like he is 3. So after awhile he was getting annoyed with me and this is what I got:

Bad, I know!!!! Anyway, we had a great and relaxing Valentines Day. Unfortunately I am working today and then I have to fill in the FAFSA for my son's college. Ick! And of course it is due today. Dangggg, I have to keep a better eye on this stuff!
Have a great day!

It's time for Aloha Friday....Kailani at An Island Life started this fun weekly blog post called Aloha Friday. Based on the Hawaiian tradition of taking it easy on Friday and looking forward to the weekend, she asks a question of her readers. She invites others to participate by asking a question of their own.

Here is this week's question, in honor of Valentines Day:

What is your favorite candy bar?

My absolute all-time favorite candy bar is a Payday.

Wonderfully delicious and soooooo good for you....NOT!! It's just packed full of salty/sweet, crunchy/chewy goodness. I savor each and every bite!! Now you see why I have a weight problem, LOL. Unfortunately I can't enjoy them as much as I like being on WW, thats for sure!
Would love to hear from you today!!

ThanksGiving and Think Thin Thursday

I found this neat little meme over at http://www.odelltrips.blogspot.com/ called Thanksgiving Thursday, where on Thursday you take the time to celebrate all the things you are thankful for this week. I think this is a fantastic idea since I have a tendency to focus on the things that didn't go so well rather than the things that did. Sooooo things I am thankful for.....

1. I'm thankful that my dad is out of the hospital and doing well.

2. I'm thankful that Travis got straight A's on his report card once again. He is so consistent when it comes to his grades. His driving leaves something to be desired, but grades....he rocks!! Wait, that was a little bit negative wasn't it? Oops, sorry!!

3. I'm thankful that my bathroom is getting painted. I know this sounds kinda superficial, but my bathroom has been in some state of renovation for over a year now, so when I saw him, with paint brush in hand, phew was I happy!

4. I'm thankful that I get to take my husband out for Valentines day this weekend.

5. I'm thankful that the wind has died down. Now I have to go out and pick up the pieces of my neighbors roof that are strewn about our yard.

6. I'm thankful for a job that I love! It gets stressful but I do love it!

7. I was thankful that I work at home this morning when it was so windy outside.

8. I'm thankful for may Aunt Kathryn and Uncle Web who my parents flew to Florida to visit. They love to spend time together.

9. I'm thankful for my Brother in Law Chuck who surprised me with a very special card for my birthday that was signed with my late father-in-law's name. My FIL passed away a year ago on 3/7 and he was such a good friend. We had a very special relationship and to see the card with his name brought tears as well as a smile to my face and my husbands.

10. I'm thankful that I got to see Jr. Beach Bum practice for his musical this week. I was absolutely amazed at how well the boy can sing!

Well those are the things I am thankful for. Stop by http://www.odelltrips.blogspot.com/ to see what others are thankful for!! Thank you to Nicole for the reminder that we should focus on what we are thankful for!!

And Now.....for Think Thin Thursday.......

I stunk this week. Plain and simple, hands down, I blew it. I hope to get back with the program tomorrow! I got nervous when my father was sick last week and when I get nervous, being the emotional eater that I am, I started picking, and still haven't quit! I hate when I lose control like that so my goal for this week is to get back to it. Follow the program to the T. I have a goal of losing a certain amount of weight by my son's graduation and there is no way I'll get it if I continue eating the way I am right now. Back to the WW program for me!!

I hope you all have a moment to think about the things you are thankful for today!!

Random Thoughts and Sadness

You know, I love to neb around the blogosphere. I have my list of blogs I check daily, and while I'm there, sometimes I'll click on a random follower, and from there click on another, then another. Generally I have a great time doing this. It is so interesting reading about people's lives, their likes, dislikes, their children, their jobs, their opinions. Yesterday, however, during my daily blog neb, I came across such sadness. It seemed like every time I clicked deeper into the blogosphere I would find a sadder story. If there is one thing that sends me over the edge, it is a sick child. They are so innocent and helpless, and just don't understand what is going on. My heart litterally breaks for so many, but these 2 in particular. I hope I never know the pain that these 2 families are enduring right now. I have included their links below. Click at your own risk....tissues required. If you pray, I know these families could use your prayers today. I haven't been able to get them out of my mind.

http://half12.blogspot.com/

http://www.themcclenahans.blogspot.com/

On another note, my parents were humbled and appreciative when I showed them the well wishes from everyone who visited my blog! They couldn't believe it! They wanted me to thank everyone that stopped by with get well wishes for my dad and Happy Birthday wishes for my mom. He is doing well!! So well, in fact, that they left for Florida this morning on a trip that has been planned for a few months.

I hope you all have a wonderful evening.

Welcome to Aloha Friday....And Other Stuff.....

Its time for Aloha Friday.....Kailani at An Island Life started this fun weekly blog post called Aloha Friday. Based on the Hawaiian tradition of taking it easy on Fridays and looking forward to the weekend she asks a question of her readers. She invites others to participate by asking a question of their own.

Here is this week's question:

Who was the last person you hugged?

Answer:

My husband John when he left to go out of town for work yesterday. I live for his big cuddly teddy-bear hugs!!

So on to other things.....

It has been awhile since I posted. On Monday my dad was put in the hospital for atrial fibrillation. His ankles and calves were swollen to the point where they were bigger than his thighs, a sign the heart is not working correctly. Unfortunately, he is still in there. They put him on Coumadin and are trying to get his levels up to where they need to be. They would like his Coumadin levels between a 2 and a 5 and right now he is at 1.4. It's been hard being away. I live about 3 hours away, but I am heading up there tomorrow and I'm anxious to see him! And my mom who has been so strong through all of this. She is his rock. When I talked to the nurse on Tuesday morning she said he was very anxious through the night but when my mom got back there in the morning, it was like a sigh of relief for him and he calmed right down. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. He is very afraid and HATES being in the hospital.

Speaking of mom, she turned 70 yesterday!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!! I hope you had a wonderful day!!

People that know me know that my mom is probably my very best friend. She is a constant source of strength for me. I feel so blessed to have her in my life and to have the type of relationship that we have.

Thought I would share a pic of my parents (the couple on the right) with my mom's sister and her hubby, Aunt Kathryn and Uncle Web.

And for the heck of it, I thought I would put my favorite pic of all time of my son and my father from my neice's graduation party. Travis and papa are total buds!

Hope you all have a great weekend!!

P.S. Think Thin Thursday will continue next week. With all that was going on, not only did I not do so great, but I missed posting on Thursday!

Can I just say I wish I was at a beach right now? Somewhere? Anywhere? Beuhler? Beuhler? We woke up to snow again! It is beautiful and sunny right now but freezing cold!!

It's time for ALOHA FRIDAY!!!

Question for this week......

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOUR SELF, EITHER PHYSICAL OR PERSONALITY TRAIT OR BOTH?

I would have to say my favorite physical trait about myself is my nose.

My favorite personality trait is that I'm very outgoing and have always made friends easily.

That has a flip side though. It has been a bad year for me in the friendship arena and it makes me sad. My very best friend and I had a falling out and I'm so sad. One thing happened, one thought it was a misunderstanding, one thought it was simply not following through, lots of things were said, and in the end, a 33 year friendship crumbled. I do have hopes that we can get back to where we were. She is my son's Godmother and I miss her terribly. But I don't know how, after all was said and done between us, we can ever let go of what happened and get back to where we were. I do keep hoping and praying though.

Then another friendship kinda took a turn south. That was by choice though. It was getting too hard. That probably sounds dumb, but the drama was just becoming unbearable. I miss that one as well though. She was a lot of fun in small doses, LOL! I always prided myself on the fact that I had a lot of good friends and I was a good friend back. This has caused me to take a close look at myself and examine what I may have done to contribute to the situations above, and what I can do to prevent it from happening again. It totally bums me out!

Wow, Aloha Friday is supposed to be a light, fun day.....I got deep!!

Be sure to check out www.Islandlife808.com for more Aloha Friday questions!

Think Thin Thursday

It's that time again!!! Soooo what are my goals for this coming week. Well, this Saturday when I weigh in I want to be at 10 pounds lost!!! Then I will be right on schedule with my plan. With the weather as it has been, I have NOT exercised! I should get my butt down in the family room and do a video. However, I would much prefer to walk the dog. I don't have any good videos! If anyone has any recommendations for good exercise videos, please let me know! So for this coming week, EXERCISE is the name of the game.

See ya tomorrow for Aloha Friday!

It's a Freakin Winter Wonderland Out There!!

Popped my head outside this morning and look what I saw!! It is days like this when I'm so thankful that I work at home!! This was actually early and it wasn't long after this that my internet went down for the whole stinkin day. :o( That is always a problem, since I do work at home, and I need the internet to work!! Luckily I have a very nice boss and a couple of other coordinators to help out when technology fails!!

Back to the snow, we ended up with well over a foot! Another lucky thing for me is that Mr. Beach Bum works for a building maintenance company, so even though he was up in Cleveland, his company came and plowed our drive for us. WhooooHoooo! Thanks Guys! Sadly, I never heard them or I would have thanked them personally.

This is the view out back. These pictures are so darn small though!

And for the heck of it, I thought I would add a picture of my next door neighbors house. She had it painted a pretty color of peutrid this summer. Where do people find these colors, and should they not clear them with all neighbors if they are choosing a color that you need sunglasses to look at? There must have been a sale on the paint no one ever wanted! It is a mix between Limon and Pistachio. That is the best I can describe.

So, needless to say, here is what Gepperheimer and I did today.

Nice, and comfy cozy all day long! Hope you all had a nice day!!

Recipe Time!!!

I tried this soup out on the fam last week, and they loved it. They are always leary when I'm on a diet, because they are just not sure what to think of the new recipes I come home with, and of course most of the food is bland, but this soup was really, REALLY good!!

Crock Pot Beef Vegetable Soup
1 pound lean ground beef
1 small onion chopped
2 cloves of garlic (I used 2 tsp of the chopped garlic).
2 cups cole slaw mix (this is just shredded cabbage in the produce department)
1 bag of frozen corn
1 bag of frozen green beans
4 cups of V-8 juice. I used the low sodium but I think the hot and spicy would be excellent!
1 can of Italian stewed tomatoes
2 T. Worcestershire sauce
1 t. dried basil

Brown the ground beef with the onion and garlic. Drain if necessary. Put in crock pot with the rest of the ingredients and cook on HIGH for 4-5 hours.

I added some Franks Hot Sauce because, well I just come from a long line of Frank's Hot Sauce lovers and I tend to use it in soups. IT WAS SOOOO DELISH!!

Try it and let me know what you think!!

Weekend Wrap up ~

Well of course I am behind on my posting again. I swear, with working a full time job and a part time job, and then all the must-see TV, by Thursday I'm spent. I never got to do Think Thin Thursday, so I'll do that right now.

Soooo, this week at WW I lost 1.3 pounds. I was a little bit bummed! OK don't get me wrong. On one hand, I'm thrilled. This was my 3rd weigh in and 1.3 pounds gone is 1.3 pounds gone. But I skipped the 2 pound losses. Went from 3.6 down to 1.3. I didn't want to be out of the 2's already.
My goal this week is to up the exercise a little bit and drink my water, which I still struggle with. Speaking of that, we are having our family Biggest Loser competition, and I ended up joining in on another one. My SIL's SIL is having one. We had to pay on that one! But I want to win that 400 buckaroo's when it's all said and done!
Thanks to Bridgette over at the Not So Blog Blog for Think Thin Thursdays!!

Secondly, I missed Aloha Friday!! I always like Aloha Friday because lots of people come and visit my blog and leave bloggy comments!! I LOVE IT!!! Feel free to follow when you stop by peeps!!

So here we go......

My question for Aloha Friday is this....

Do you have any vacation plans for 2009 yet?

Me, Mr. Beachbum and Junior Beachbum are all going to the upper peninsula in Michigan in July. We are going to spend the week at my sisters house in Naubinway MI. Can I wait??? Negatory! It is Papa Beach Bum's 80th Birthday!!! The whole family, all 21 of us are going up there to celebrate. My sister's house is right on Lake Michigan. It is like the ocean, with pine trees instead of palm trees, so I will be in heaven!!

Stop by An Island Life and play along!!

On other news Mr. Beachbum and I went to see the movie Gran Torino with Clint Eastwood last night. I absolutely loved it!! I recommend for anyone to see it. Excellent movie!!

Also last night I was a big girl....well as far as mommies go. I actually let my son go up to the University of Toledo with his friend Paul and stay all night. Paul is a pretty responsible kid and Junior Beachbum is too so I just thought heck, he will be in college in 6 months himself. Might as well let him go. I guess I just felt good about it. They did good, although they did not want to get their bums out of bed and Travis was ALMOST late for work, but he wasn't and it all worked out and I will probably let him do it again.

Well that's about it for my weekend! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend yourselves!!

Picture Tag

I saw a post on a blog I follow "47 and Starting Over" that was called Picture Tag, and she tagged everyone who read the post. I thought it would be fun to play along. You go to "My Pictures" and look in the 5th album, and take the 5th picture and tell a little bit about it. I guess you can only do this if you have alot of pictures stored on your computer......and well, who doesn't??? God help me if my hard drive ever crashes. Why did I just say that??? Note to self, BACK UP COMPUTER TODAY!!

Here is my picture.

These are my newphews, Noah and Brian. They are twins, but obviously NOT identical. We call the wombmates, because they look nothing alike. Interestingly they have twin sisters as well, Brooke and Halle. My brother gets the 2 for 1 special I guess when it comes to kids. They were a couple years younger in this picture and it was during Brian's "Thumb's up" phase, where every picture taken of him had a "Thumb's up", including his school picture. So precious!! And then there is the issue of the bike helmet on backwards, LOL. Noah is actually my Godson. He is such a sweetie.

Since I'm at it, here is a picture of their sisters taken the same day.

This is Brooke and Halle. They actually look quite a bit more alike than their brothers do, and in fact, one of the brothers looks like these 2.
I have to tell you, if you don't have any experience with twins, like me before these 4 were born, it is really amazing to see them interact. They just love their twin. They fight like cats and dogs, like any brothers and sisters, but they are fiercely loyal to their twin and always looking out for them. They don't like it when one is in trouble. One of the girls was in the hospital because she was sick and she was soooo concerned about her sister. And her sister at home kept saying, "But I'm sick too, I need to go to the hospital too!!" Its just because they are always together. They know no different. And both sets have one that is really outgoing and fun, Brooke and Brian, and then one that is more stoic, sits back and takes everything in, Halle and Noah.
Here is one of them all together that same day. Good times......

A RENEWED SPIRIT OF HOPE FOR THE USA

Wow can you believe it??? What a wonderful thing to see history in the making. I was glued to the television and frankly, I was getting pretty P.O.'d that work kept getting in my way of watching all the inaugural festivities today. I, for one, am so excited about the future. We can only go up from here. Sure President Obama has his work cut out for him. Really, they always do when they take over from their predecessors. But he definitely inherited some serious sh*t. However, I think he will breathe some much-needed new life into Washington. For those of you that are hesitant about our new president, I have 2 things to say. 1) Just think how we felt 4 years ago. 2) I have complete faith that this president, very unlike our last, will have no problems crossing the aisle and being bipartison. He really has no choice but to do so at this point, in order to unite this country. This is America and we need to get back to where we used to be. He has a great vision for the USA and now has his work cut out for him to accomplish everything he has set out to do.

I was never into politics before this election. But for some reason I took a major interest and it was such a roller coaster!!!! And on a sad note, I really missed Tim Russert on Meet the press. He would have loved it!!

I did feel bad for George Bush when he came out and they boo'd at him and were singing nanananaaaa nanananaaaa, Hey Hey Hey, Goodbye. No matter what he did, or how bad people think he was, he was the President of the US and deserved more respect than that. The news people were saying it was mean too.

Now on to Michelle Obama's clothes for the day......I was a little bit disappointed!! Sometimes she looks absolutely beautiful and sometimes not. Today not so much. I didnt care for the colors she chose today, but just my opinion! I am NO fashionista by any stretch of the imagination.

I can't imagine how cold it was for everyone standing out there......record turnout of over 3 million I heard. The country was ready for a change!!

Husbands and Closets

Well you know I have this husband named John. He is the good lookin guy over there in the pictures with me. Ohhhh sure, he seems harmless enough. On the outside he appears to be a nice, quiet guy, a hard worker who would do anything for anyone.....but he has a shocking characteristic that many people do not know about him.

He is a pain in the butt I mean, he demands equal closet space!! When I say equal, I mean absolutely and completely equal, 1/2 for him and 1/2 for me. He actually has a couple of these little hang-ups I never saw coming, LOL! Those I'll save for future posts.

What is up with this and why did I not know this before we married?

Sure, when we first bought this house, I was all full of myself, thinking he would put all of his clothes in the guest bedroom and I could have the whole closet to myself in our bedroom. We have a 1970's built house so no walk-ins here. I was just happy as a camper in my own mind thinking John's stuff goes in there, and I will have our closet all to myself. Wishful thinking!! A total "no go" from the get go!

So in complete defeat, I agree to divvy up the closet, because I sure as heck wasn't going to put my stuff in the guest bedroom. Besides that really is my office and my beading room, no room for clothes in that closet. And obviously as a woman I have more clothes than he does. Mind you, I do work at home so I don't have a ton of clothes, but I definitely have more than he does. So as the days/weeks go by, I start, hanger by hanger, inching my clothes over so that apparently they were encroaching on his side. OK they were. I admit it. I was starting to hog the closet. The next time I looked in our closet, The dirty bastage My ever so sweet husband had smooshed all of my clothes over so that they were taking like 1/4 of the closet. Ohhhhhhh no you di'ent!

I am not a huge fan of ironing and so I always hang my clothes up right away after fluffing them in the dryer. Every single one of them were nothing but a smooshy wrinkled mess!

I remember the day well, as I stomped out of our room, with my dukes up, ready for a good fight. He said, "That'll teach ya to move your clothes over."

So about 2 or so years ago I cried and carried on begged him to put up a line in the basement so that I could keep last season's clothes down there. You know switch out winter for summer without ever really having to fold everything up and put it in boxes. He FINALLY put it up. It's genius really. A piece of electrical conduit hanging from the rafters of the basement by some type of something or other he finagled. But anyway, I'm down there today going through the clothes on that line, because I know it is time to bring Goodwill some goodies. And Low and Behold HE has clothes on MY line. Ohhh no you di'ent again! That is MY line to have all to myself. I don't have to share it! OK its only 2 shirts, a robe, and a suit, but HEY, IT's MY LINE.

Sooooo as I sit here waiting for my precious hubby to come home from work (He was up in Cleveland again), I ponder how, exactly, what I'm going to say. Do I just say nothing and sneak his clothes upstairs, kinda like he said nothing and smooshed mine???? Or do I share. He wouldn't share with me! 1/2 and 1/2 right? That line was for my other half that didn't fit, LOL!

I just don't know...... I'll gladly listen to any creative ideas on how to handle this situation!! Comment away..... Maybe someone has a great idea for me!!

Weekend Update

So here it is Sunday night already! Time for your weekly update on our household!

Weight Watchers was yesterday.....and WHOOO HOOOO, 3.6 pounds down! That makes a total of 7.8. I'm just chuggin right along in the biggest loser competition. However, I was not the biggest loser. My mom was leading the way. Sweet little Barbara Ann, who is little to begin with, lost 4.4 pounds at Weight Watchers last week. Then my friend Laura from work came zippin in with a 5 pound weight loss. CONGRATULATIONS LAURA!!

So after Weight Watchers, what do John and I do but go out to lunch at the Olive Garden. I did have the soup and salad, which was really yummitha. I love that one soup they have there, Tuscan Something or Other....yea thats the official name I'm pretty sure..... hee hee. Its the one with the potatoes and sausage.

After that we came home and did absolutely nothing. I was actually working yesterday, so I had to come home and work and ended up working until after 10 last night.

John left for Cleveland at about 4 a.m. I spent the day....I'm so embarrassed to admit it, but I spent the day taking down and reorganizing the Christmas decorations. I feel good though. It is all put away and in a nice orderly fashion. Ahhhhh organization feels good. I should really try it more often. My office is in desperate need of some organization! Maybe I'll make that next on the list!

Travis just left to go watch the Steelers game at his friends house so I am on my own tonight. I need to actually clean up a bit so that is what I'll be doing.

You know this is probably one of the most boring weekends I could have, but I rather enjoyed it! It is nice to stay home and accomplish something in the house. Sadly, my house has been neglected of late. Priorities people, priorities!!!

I hope you all have a wonderful week!!

ALOHA FRIDAY!!!

Welcome to today's edition of Aloha Friday!! As a reminder.....Aloha Friday is a "take it easy kinda day." So I ask a simple question, and you comment with a simple answer.

Sooooo my question is this.....compliments of my Pointers Take 2 Group.

What would you rather have????

A personal trainer...

A personal chef...

A person to clean your house???

Me???? Can I have one of each? Is it too much to ask people?? Really, I'm thinking a personal chef because: 1) I hate to cook. 2) They could cook healthy things for me. 3) I wouldn't be tempted to pick while I cook. How about you???

P.S. -20 degrees this morning when Jackson Gepperheimer wanted out. OMG!!! OMG!!! OMG!!! Nothing like leaving your nice, comfy, cozy, warm bed, that I had all to myself because John is up in Cleveland for work, to have to go out into the freezing cold and put the dog out. I mean we are talking teeth chattering, frost bitten, my fingers hurt and can't work the chain hooker cold!!! OK, I'm done whining about the cold, I promise....

BRRRRRR.........

Okay remember last Sunday when I said it was freezing cold???? Well I had no idea what I was talking about. The temperature on Sunday was balmy compared to today. OMG!!!! When I put Jackson out this morning, it was -6 degrees. I looked at his little self and said "JACK, you are not really going to make mommy put you outside in this cold are ya??" And he stared at me with his pathetic "I have to pee" eyes, which were screaming "Freakin put me outside already, I GOTTA GO!" So out we went. Fortunately I just have to step out onto the deck and hook him up to his chain and then back out to let him in. I have absolutely been chilled all day! I know many of you across the country have much lower temperatures than we have. I don't know how ya do it! And when I was watching on the news about that plane that crashed in the Hudson, all I could think about is how absolutely freezing cold those poor people must be! What a great pilot to have prevented a complete disaster. I hope all the passengers are OK tonight.

Regarding my last post, Travis is NOT going to the concert on Sunday. Ohhhh he tried....he worked it the best he could, but eventually caved and all is well. Hopefully a lesson learned as well. See, the thing is, K's family has it very tough financially (his best friend). And K's mom, a hairdresser, said she would have to work at least till Wednesday to have enough money for K to go to this concert. Well I said to Travis, if his mom has to work to get this money for K, then obviously they can't afford it. And he processed that for a little bit and said yea, I think they could probably use that money for a lot of other things. A defining moment! A wise thought process!! Parenting....one day a slap in the face, the next day....proud moments because you realize, Hey, I must be doing SOMETHING right!!

On that happy note.....I'll see ya tomorrow!

It's SUNDAY......

And it is bitter cold! I had to take Travis to work.

Some of you may know he lost his driver's license. He had a wreck when he was 16 and then a speeding ticket (ok obviously driving is not his strong point) the next year, and in the state of Ohio, if you have 2 moving violations under 18 you lose your license for 90 days. So his 90 days was up 12/1. He had to take a driving class for 8 hours on a Saturday. Then we took the certificate from that class, went to the Marion courthouse, gave it to them, she hands Travis his license and says "Have a nice day."

Sooooo fast forward to right before Christmas. I get a letter from the Ohio BMV that says he does not have a valid drivers license because they did not receive that certificate. Now why would the Marion Courthouse not tell us this???? I call the BMV, and they said they need the certificate, $30, and then he would have to get his temps again and then test for his drivers license again. OMG!!! And Marion knew nothing about this? So I had to get another certificate for that class and send it down to Columbus with the $30 and we are now just waiting. It is ridiculous. But then again, I hope he has learned his lesson.

So anyway took Trav to work and have to pick him up at 2. I'm dreading going back out in that cold.

Speaking of my son......I have an issue.

I came to the realization that I don't like to disappoint him, and I don't like to say NO, but on the other hand, this is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!! This came up yesterday because he wants to go to a concert next Saturday and the tickets are $70. Now he has the money to get his ticket, although what he doesn't get is that he should be saving his money. He is going away to school next year and will definitely need it. He also chose not to work for the better part of last summer when he could have been stashing money away. He left his job at Holister and I literally hounded him relentlessly until he went back to working at Wendy's. Travis does NOT want to work. You see, for him it is all about the social aspect of life. He is very involved in school and extracurricular activities, and he is also a straight A student. So, of course I don't expect him to carry a full time job in addition to all of this. However, I do think that it certainly would not kill him to work on the weekends. He used to work Wednesday and Sunday but he had to cut out Wednesday because of play practice. I told him he should work Saturday evenings but he said no, because there are basketball games, etc. He is a total lazy ass when it comes to working. Oops did I say that out loud???? He simply does not care to work at this time in his life. So where is the line between your teenager having a great time in their high school years (his argument), and learning to save and budget money and making wise choices on how to spend his money????

So back to the concert. I, of course explained to him that he should be saving his money and he didnt really want to hear it. Since he cannot drive to the concert, his best friend (I'll refer to as K) is taking him. Travis asked me today if I would take him to Giant Eagle when I pick him up from work to get these tickets. I asked about K's ticket and who is paying for that one. He said if I charged it they would pay me back. I didn't really like this plan too much, and Travis, in a very cocky tone, said, "Mom, its your charge, it's not like you need to pay the money right away." OMG, is that a spoiled brat or what? Some things like this just slap me in the face. I explained to him that I do not use charge cards, and that would be my debit card he sees me use. I told him that I have 2 college applications to pay for for him ($85), send his ACT scores to both places ($18), and then he has a winter formal dance next week, so there will be dinner and the dance itself. Fortunately he is wearing something he has but I'm sure I'll need to get a flower, etc.

Travis just doesn't get it!!! I swear he thinks there is just an unlimited amount of money for his social pleasure. He was very P.O.'d at me about the whole thing. So I said, OK, if K's mom can give me the money by Tuesday, I will buy the ticket. So I called K's mom and she said "I told them I would not have the money until the week after this next week." It is very tough for them and this I understand. Travis and K make all these plans and never think to run it by us. So his mom is a sweetie. I explained my situation as well and of course she does not expect me to cover K's ticket in any way. She basically said if they can't go they simply can't go. Too bad, so sad. On the other hand she is like me and doesn't want to disappoint, so we left it as she was going to look at finances and see what she can do.

So why do I feel bad???? I truly feel bad that I have to go pick up Travis and say, "Sorry Charley, they couldn't pay me." I know Travis will be disappointed that he can't go, but then again, life is full of disappointments, right???? I really feel like I need to stick to my word about this so Travis realizes that money is not abundant for us. I think the whole thing is I need to start making him save and pay for more things. He does try to put money away from every check, but since he is only working 3 hours a week, his checks are a mere $20 if that. How much can he really save. I think I have done a total disservice to him and for that I feel like I have failed. I told him he needs to look for another job. On the other hand, I don't want to put a ton of pressure on him either.

Can ya tell I'm confused, LOL? What is a mom to do??? No one ever said it was easy, did they????? I'll listen to any suggestions anyone has out there! I'm really at my wits end with the whole thing!
